The Meaning of WhistleStop Part 1: The name

It’s a beautiful, rainy, fall day today, so some of the items on my to do list are on hold. I thought I would take this opportunity to begin to tell you a little about WhistleStop Acres and what it means to my heart!

Part 1: Today I will start with the name.

For years, the dream has been growing for a place like this! We have patiently waited for the right timing, the right place, and the right season! 2022 opened that door.

We looked at so many properties, but this was one of the first. It had just come on the market that day and we had this “feeling” when we saw it. With it’s first showing, we knew we didn’t need to try negotiating price. We took a deep breath and made it a matter of prayer. We kept looking and exploring other options, knowing if this was actually the one, it would come to be.

Well, a couple of months later, that’s exactly what happened. We made a connection with the place, and we loved the former owners. It was just “right” for all of us!

We signed on the dotted line and drove straight out and stood on our new property with such humble gratitude! We have dreamed hard and worked even harder to get here and we felt the Lord’s favor all over our plans!

That evening, we heard the train whistle in the distance for the first time. We hadn’t heard it before in the few times we were out !

Some people might be upset by that. For us, it was goosebumps.

Our youngest son, who now resides in heaven, absolutely loved planes and trains! We buried him in a place where trains can be heard and small planes fly over head. So hearing that whistle was like him smiling down from heaven and letting us know he is still a part of every single thing we do!

We began to toss around some names, but kept going back to the sound of that whistle. Finally, we just leaned In and new that WhistleStop Acres was perfect because every time we say that name we feel our boy!

So when you visit us, listen for the train in the distance and think of our little guy!
